Our team will liaise with you during throughout the process, notifying you when the driver is en route to ensure you know when we will be there to collect your vehicle which customers find useful if they need to travel to where the car is located.
There are a few requirements you need to meet on collection day. Here is a list of what you will need to provide us to scrap your car:
- A valid form of identification.
- Your keys (including any locking wheel nut or electronic keys and codes) and security codes if you have them.
- Your documents (such as the registration certificate, service history, MOT certificate and manuals) if you have them.

- Call you in advance to ensure the car is still available for collection.
- Check that your car matches your quote.
- Validate and take a copy of your identification.
- Take care of the DVLA paperwork.
- Sort out the payment.
If you have any road tax remaining, you’ll get an automatic road tax refund from DVLA.
You must prove your identity to enable you to scrap your car in England, Wales or Scotland. All you need is a current photocard driving licence, as this confirms your name, date of birth and residential address.
Don’t have a photocard driving licence? If you don’t have a photocard driving licence, you can instead show another form of photo ID from list 1 below, along with separate proof of address from list 2 below.
List 1: Accepted forms of photo ID:
- a valid UK passport
- a valid passport issued by a European Economic Area state, or
- a valid UK biometric immigration document.
List 2: Accepted proof of address (which must not be older than 3 months):
- a bank or building society statement
- a credit or debit card statement
- a council tax statement or demand letter
- a utility bill (e.g. gas, electricity, water), but not a mobile phone bill.
Proving your identity is a requirement of The Scrap Metal Dealers Act in England and Wales and we cannot proceed with the process until an appropriate form of identification is provided.
The most common method of payment available are Bank Transfer and Cheque Payment. Bank Transfers are usually cleared within 24 hours from the time of collection. Cheque Payments are issued on collection but can take a few days to clear with your bank.
If you are wondering what are the current scrap metal prices and how much you will be paid for your scrap, our professional team can provide you a vehicle specific quote which takes into account, the current scrap metal prices.
If you do not have the V5C logbook we can still collect your vehicle. All it means is that the person present at the time of collection will have to provide Photo I.D and a recent utility Bill, and the registered keeper will need to inform DVLA in writing.
The DVLA need to know that the car has been sold to GP Metals and Spares Ltd for scrap. If required, we can provide a CoD by using the chassis number of the vehicle. Please ensure you make sure our team know that you do not have the V5C document when booking in the vehicle for a collection.
A C.O.D or certificate of destruction is an official document that is provided to the owner of a car when it has been scrapped. The certificate of destruction can only be provided by a company that is registered as an ATF (authorised treatment facility). We are an established and reputable registered ATF company, so if you request a COD you will receive one. You can also be confident that your car will be recycled correctly and legally.
Due to the SMDA 2013 (scrap metal dealers act 2013) scrap metal dealers and car breakers can no longer pay for vehicles using CASH.
If you are not able to provide your photo identification at the time of collection, you could always ask a family member to be present with their Photo I.D/utility bill. Failing this alternative, the recovery driver can always take a photo of yourself at the time of collection.
Depending on your location, we can often collect on the same day or next day. On average collections are within 48 working hours.
